Feeding & Swallowing

If your baby or child is having a tough time with feeding, you’re not alone—and we’re here to help. At NRG Speech & Feeding, we support families through a variety of feeding challenges, using a gentle, responsive, and evidence-based approach.

We work with infants and children who experience:

  • Difficulty breastfeeding or latching

  • Trouble with bottle feeding or transitioning between breast and bottle

  • Struggles moving from purees to solid foods

  • Frequent gagging, coughing, or choking during meals

  • Food refusal or mealtime tantrums

  • Very limited diets or strong preferences (also known as “picky eating” or selective eating)

  • Sensory sensitivities to textures, smells, or temperatures

  • Concerns about oral motor skills (chewing, swallowing, drinking from a straw/cup)

  • Medical or developmental issues that impact feeding and nutrition

Our feeding therapists use techniques from approaches like the SOS Approach to Feeding, TalkTools, and myofunctional therapy to create a plan that fits your child’s needs—and your family’s routines.

We believe in making mealtimes more positive, less stressful, and focused on progress, not pressure. Our goal is to support healthy eating habits while promoting confidence, comfort, and growth.

Language

At NRG Speech & Feeding, we help children build the communication skills they need to connect, learn, and thrive—at home, in school, and in everyday life. Whether your child is just starting to talk or struggling with more advanced language skills, we’re here to help with personalized, play-based therapy.

We support children who have difficulties with:

  • Understanding language (following directions, answering questions, vocabulary delays)

  • Expressing themselves clearly with words or sentences

  • Learning new words and using them in the right way (semantics)

  • Putting words together to form correct sentences (syntax and grammar)

  • Pronouncing sounds or patterns clearly (phonology)

  • Telling stories, sharing ideas, or staying on topic in conversation

  • Reading, writing, and spelling (literacy-based language challenges)

  • Understanding and using nonverbal communication like gestures, tone, and facial expressions (paralinguistics)

  • Interacting socially—starting conversations, taking turns, and reading social cues (pragmatic language)

  • Developing early communication skills like joint attention, pointing, or using signs and gestures

Our therapy supports both spoken and written language, and we tailor each session to your child’s age, learning style, and specific goals. Whether we’re working on early language development or supporting social communication, our focus is always on helping your child feel confident and connected.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

At NRG Speech & Feeding, we provide specialized therapy for orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs)—conditions that can affect your child’s breathing, eating, speaking, and overall oral development.

If your child is struggling with any of the following, myofunctional therapy may help:

  • Chronic mouth breathing or open-mouth posture

  • Thumb-sucking, pacifier use, or other oral habits

  • Tongue thrust or difficulty keeping the tongue in the right position

  • Tongue tie or lip tie (also called tethered oral tissues/TOTs)

  • Poor tongue mobility or restricted movement

  • Difficulty chewing or moving food around the mouth

  • Low oral muscle tone or weak lips, cheeks, or tongue

  • Problems with speech clarity due to oral motor challenges

Our therapy supports healthy nasal breathing, proper lip and tongue resting posture, and stronger oral muscles—laying the foundation for clear speech, efficient chewing, and long-term oral health. For children with tongue or lip ties, we provide both pre- and post-release therapy to improve function and healing.

We create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support your child’s specific needs in a playful, supportive environment.

Speech Sound Production

At NRG Speech & Feeding, we help children learn to speak more clearly and confidently by targeting the sounds and motor skills needed for effective communication. Our therapy is play-based, personalized, and rooted in proven techniques that meet your child where they are.

We support children who:

  • Have trouble saying certain sounds correctly (like “r,” “s,” “th,” “l,” etc.)

  • Are hard to understand when they speak, even to familiar people

  • Mix up sounds or leave them out completely (e.g., saying “tat” for “cat”)

  • Show signs of childhood apraxia of speech—difficulty planning and coordinating the muscle movements needed for speech

  • Have a history of speech delays or struggle to make progress with traditional articulation therapy

  • Need help with motor-based speech disorders (difficulty physically forming sounds)

  • Are frustrated or anxious about speaking because others can’t understand them

We work on all types of speech sound disorders, including:

  • Articulation disorders – trouble with specific sounds

  • Phonological disorders – patterns of sound errors (like always replacing “k” with “t”)

  • Motor speech disorders, including apraxia of speech

Our goal is to help your child speak more clearly, confidently, and comfortably—at home, in school, and with friends. Therapy sessions are tailored to each child’s strengths and challenges, and always focused on making communication easier and more effective.
